LESSON 2 OF 16 • SEE IT: VISION & TRACKING
Lesson 2: One Look, Every Pitch
From the AHD Hitting Processor Masterclass with BK, for baseball and fastpitch softball hitters.
Today's Lesson
“If your eyes are hunting for the ball, you are already behind it.”
Pick one pre-pitch look and use it every time. Start with a wide, soft focus on the pitcher’s chest or cap. As the arm comes through, snap to fine focus on the release window, the small area where the ball first appears out of the hand.
Find that window in the first two or three pitches from any pitcher, then live there. Your eyes should be at the window early, waiting. Staring hard at one spot the whole time tires the eyes. Changing where you look from pitch to pitch is one of the most common hidden leaks in hitting.
Why It Matters
Trained hitters switch focus on a schedule and look in the same place every pitch, so the brain knows what to expect. Untrained hitters stare, blink late and pick the ball up halfway in.
Coaching Cue
Wide early, sharp at the window.
Today's Work
Session (about 20 minutes):
• Focus switch: 10 pitches, live or on pitcher video. Say “soft” as the pitcher starts and “sharp” as you snap to release.
• Same look: 10 pitches. Say your look out loud before each one. Partner watches your eyes and head for wandering.
• Window hunter: 20 pitches from one pitcher. Point to the release window after three pitches, then check it against the rest.
Track It
Log pitches picked up cleanly out of the hand, pitches with your exact pre-pitch look, and how many came out of the window you called.
Next: Lesson 3 takes the ball from the hand all the way to the glove, then tests every vision skill so far.
Window Hunter
You need: Pitcher video or live BP, 20 pitches, partner watching your eyes
How to play: Use the identical pre-pitch look every pitch. After three pitches, call the release window. Score the next 20.
Scoring: 1 point for the same look with no wandering + 1 point when the ball came out of the window you called. Single 20, Double 30, Triple 36, Home run 40.
0 TB1️⃣ SINGLE
1 TB2️⃣ DOUBLE
2 TB3️⃣ TRIPLE
3 TB💥 HR
4 TB
Grade it: Below 20 = out. 20+ = single. 30+ = double. 36+ = triple. A perfect 40 = home run.
