Complete Hitters Are Built… It’s Earned!
Key takeaways
- Local private hitting lessons run about $60–$75 for 30 minutes and $100–$150 for an hour in a market like Scottsdale.
- You’re paying for a diagnosis, a plan, feedback and a retest — not just 30 minutes of swings.
- The hidden costs are a new coach every month and drills that never stack into anything.
- Judge value by three things: is there a plan, is there one priority, and is there a retest?
Local private hitting lessons typically cost about $60–$75 for 30 minutes and $100–$150 for an hour. Online courses run a one-time fee in the low hundreds, and full remote coaching costs more — but price per lesson matters far less than whether the lessons follow a plan.
I’ve been on every side of this for 52 years — player, coach, scout. Parents ask me about price all the time, and they deserve a straight answer with real numbers.
Here’s what the market looks like in 2026, what you’re really buying, and how to tell if the money is building a hitter or just filling a calendar.
1. What do private hitting lessons cost in 2026?
Let’s use a real, public number. One Scottsdale cage facility lists private lessons at $60–$75 for 30 minutes and $100–$150 for an hour (October 2026). That’s a fair picture of good local instruction in a metro area like ours.
Now do the math on a normal routine. One 30-minute lesson a week for 12 weeks is $720–$900. One hour a week for 12 weeks is $1,200–$1,800.
That isn’t a knock. Good coaches earn their rate. It’s just the real number parents should plan around.

2026 PRICE CHECK
WHAT LESSONSREALLY COST.
- Local 30 min: $60–$75
- Local 1 hour: $100–$150
- AHD course: $79–$250 one time
- AHD 90-day coaching: $1,995
PRICE PER LESSON ISN’T VALUE
2. What are you actually paying for in a hitting lesson?
You’re not paying for 30 minutes of soft toss. You’re paying for a trained eye. A good coach should see what’s really holding your hitter back and tell you what to fix FIRST.
- A diagnosis. One clear priority, not ten things at once.
- A plan. What to work on between lessons, how many reps and how many days.
- Feedback. Video and cues that tell your hitter whether the work is landing.
- A retest. A way to prove the change shows up in games, not just in the cage.
If a lesson gives you none of those, it’s batting practice with a coach watching. Your kid may still enjoy it. Just don’t confuse it with development.
3. What are the hidden costs of hitting lessons?
The price sheet never shows the two most expensive mistakes I see.
A new coach every month. Every coach has a language. Switch every few weeks and your hitter hears new cues, new drills and new priorities before the last ones ever stuck. The money is spent and the swing is back at square one.
Drills that don’t stack. A drill from YouTube, one from the team coach, one from the lesson — and none of them connect. That’s collecting drills. It feels like work and builds very little.
Don’t collect drills. Build a complete hitter.
A complete hitter is built across four pillars: the swing, strength & explosiveness, the hitting processor and the mental approach. Paying to fix the swing while the real problem is timing or approach is money left on the table. Here’s the full picture: The 4 Pillars of a Complete Hitter.
4. How do online courses and remote coaching compare on price?
Online isn’t automatically better or worse. It’s a different tool. Here’s an honest side-by-side using public local rates and our real AHD prices.
| Option | Cost | What you get | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local 30-min lesson | $60–$75 per lesson | Hands-on eyes and feedback in person | Younger hitters, quick check-ins |
| Local 1-hour lesson | $100–$150 per lesson | More reps and more time to teach | Hitters with a clear goal and a coach they trust |
| AHD online course | $79–$250 one time, 1 year of access | Structured lessons, mostly 10–20 minutes, done at home | Self-starters with a parent who can film |
| AHD 90-Day Private Coaching | $1,995 for 90 days | Evaluation, personal plan, all 7 courses, video analysis, text access to Coach | Serious hitters who want a plan and accountability |
Our courses are a one-time price with a year of access and no subscription, and Lessons 1–3 are free in every course. The Complete Hitter Masterclass online hitting program covers all four pillars in 24 lessons for a $250 founding price (regularly $349).
The 90-Day Private Hitter Development program is $1,995 — a little more than a weekly hour-long local lesson over the same stretch. It includes a starting evaluation across all four pillars, a personal 90-day plan, every course, ongoing swing and game at-bat video analysis, progress reviews and direct text access to me. It’s limited to 12 athletes. Here’s what online hitting instruction with me actually looks like.
Honest note: a 7-year-old who’s barely swung a bat usually needs a coach in the room more than a course. Online works best when a hitter is old enough to film, practice alone and follow a plan.
5. How do you know if hitting lessons are worth the money?
Price is easy to compare. Value takes four questions.
- Is there a plan?Ask what your hitter will work on for the next 30, 60 or 90 days — if nobody can answer, there isn’t one.
- Is there ONE priority?Good coaching names the biggest leak first instead of fixing everything at once.
- Is there a retest?Same drill, same camera angle, same measures every few weeks, so progress is proven, not guessed.
- Does it show up in games?Cage swings are the practice; game at-bats are the test.
Want a free head start? SwingChecker takes about 3 minutes and ranks your hitter’s top priority across the four pillars, with cues, drills and matching free lessons. Bring that priority to any coach and you’ll get more out of every dollar.

Quick answers
How much are hitting lessons per hour?
In a metro area like Scottsdale, public rates run about $100–$150 for an hour of private instruction as of 2026. Thirty-minute lessons run about $60–$75.
Are online hitting lessons cheaper than in-person lessons?
Per lesson, usually yes. AHD courses are a one-time price from $79 to $250 with a year of access, while full remote coaching with a personal plan and video analysis is $1,995 for 90 days.
How often should my kid take hitting lessons?
Frequency matters less than what happens between lessons. In my experience, one lesson a week plus 10–20 minutes of planned work at home beats several lessons a week with no plan.
Are group hitting lessons worth it?
They can be a cost-effective way to get reps and basic teaching. They rarely give one hitter a personal priority, so pair them with an individual check like SwingChecker.
