Key takeaways

  • Statcast tracked Junior Caminero's average bat speed at 78.5 mph in 2025 and 79.4 mph in 2026, in the 100th percentile of MLB hitters.
  • MLB calls any swing of 75 mph or more a “fast swing.” Caminero's AVERAGE swing is faster than that.
  • His speed comes from the ground up: a strong lower half, a quick hip turn and a barrel that stays on plane, not from swinging his arms harder.
  • For young hitters, bat speed only pays when it is on time and squared up. Build the engine, then aim it.

Junior Caminero's average bat speed is about 78–79 mph, which puts him at the very top of Major League Baseball. Statcast measured 78.5 mph in 2025 and 79.4 mph in 2026, both in the 100th percentile.

QUICK ANSWER

Junior Caminero's average bat speed is about 78–79 mph (78.5 mph in 2025, 79.4 mph in 2026 per Statcast), among the fastest in MLB. It comes from a strong lower half and hip-led rotation, and it pays off because he's on time and squares the ball up.

That is the number people search for. The better question for a hitter or a parent is where that speed comes from and how much of it a 15-year-old can actually build.

I've used Caminero as an AHD swing model for a reason. His swing is aggressive and athletic, controlled violence with a plan. Here's what the numbers say and what to take from them.

1. How fast is Junior Caminero's bat speed?

MLB's Statcast bat tracking measures the speed of the bat's sweet spot on every swing. A hitter's season average comes from his “competitive” swings, the fastest 90%, so check swings and defensive pokes don't drag it down.

SeasonAverage bat speedSwing lengthHome runs
202578.5 mph8.4 ft45
202679.4 mph8.7 ft42

For context, Statcast defines a fast swing as 75 mph or more. Caminero's average swing clears that line by 3 to 4 mph. In 2026 he also averaged 92.7 mph exit velocity, with a max of 116.9 mph.

His AVERAGE swing is faster than what MLB calls a fast swing.

2. Where does Caminero's bat speed come from?

Fast bats are built from the ground up. Watch Caminero and you'll see the same chain every elite hitter has:

  1. A loaded, athletic lower halfHe gathers into his back side and keeps an athletic front leg, so the ground can push back.
  2. Hips before handsThe hips start the turn and the hands stay back. That separation stretches the core like a rubber band.
  3. The bump, then let the arrow goA small forward move into launch position, then the barrel releases. No extra arm swing.
  4. Barrel above and insideThe knob leads, the barrel stays above the hands and works inside the ball onto plane.
  5. Extension through contactThe speed is still building at contact, not spent before it.

He also has what we call Mechanically Advantaged Angles (MAA): the body and bat positions that let force move to the barrel without leaks. AHD hitters train those angles on purpose.

BUILD THE ENGINE FIRST

Elite bat speed is a chain that starts at the ground.

3. Does more bat speed always mean more power?

No. Speed only becomes damage when it's on time and squared up. I broke down a Caminero playoff at-bat where his slower swing hit the ball 110.7 mph and his faster swing hit it 73.7. Same hitter, same night. The difference was timing and contact.

This is why the 4 Pillars matter. The Swing and Strength build the engine. The Hitting Processor (see it, time it, decide, attack it) aims it. The Mental Approach lets a hitter use it under pressure.

4. What should a young hitter copy from Caminero?

Not his leg kick, not his bat waggle and not his exact swing. Copy the principles: an athletic lower half, hips before hands, a short path to a long contact zone, and intent. Every swing in practice should be a real swing.

Then build the body. High school hitters gain bat speed fastest through strength, rotational power and speed work, not by swinging a heavier bat 300 times. See our bat speed by age chart to know where your hitter stands, and the rotational power plan to raise it.

5. How do I know if bat speed is my hitter's real problem?

Many hitters chase bat speed when the real issue is timing, pitch recognition or a swing leak. Run the free SwingChecker™. In about 8 minutes it ranks your hitter's top priorities across all 4 pillars and tells you whether speed, swing or processor work comes first.

Quick answers

What is Junior Caminero's bat speed?

Statcast measured Junior Caminero's average bat speed at 78.5 mph in 2025 and 79.4 mph in 2026, in the 100th percentile of MLB hitters.

What is considered a fast bat speed in MLB?

MLB's Statcast calls any swing of 75 mph or faster a fast swing. Hitters who average 77 mph or more are among the fastest swingers in the league.

Can a high school hitter swing as fast as Caminero?

Very few will, and that's fine. High school hitters should compare themselves to their age group, then build bat speed through strength, rotational power and a sound swing, and make sure it is on time.

Does a faster swing mean more home runs?

Only when the swing is on time and squared up. A fast swing that is early or late produces weak contact. Bat speed is the engine; timing and contact decide the result.
