Breathe & Reset Build your pre-pitch routine. Practice it until it’s automatic.
Same routine, every pitch: that’s what makes a full count feel like 0-0. Pick your breath, where your eyes go, your cue word and a body trigger. Then practice it with a guided timer, and keep your routine card on your phone.

Why a pre-pitch routine works
Pressure speeds everything up. A routine slows it back down: the same breath, the same eyes, the same words, every pitch. The breath settles the body, the eye target brings the focus back, and the cue word replaces the noise in your head with one job.
Build it here, use it on every pitch for a week, then take the Pressure At-Bat and see if your Composure score moves.
Training guide
What it trains
A pre-pitch routine with a breath, eyes, a cue word and a body move, so every pitch starts the same way.
Who it’s for
Hitters who get anxious, rush, or carry a bad pitch into the next one.
How to get better
- Use the same routine on every pitch, in practice and in games.
- After a mistake, run the routine twice.
- Keep the cue word short and positive.
- Practice the breathing at home so it works under pressure.

Questions
What is a good pre-pitch routine for hitters?
A short, repeatable sequence: one calming breath, eyes to a set spot (often the pitcher’s cap or release point), a one- or two-word cue, and a small physical trigger like tapping the plate. The same every pitch.
What breathing helps hitters calm down?
A long exhale. A double breath in and a slow breath out, or a box breath (4 in, 4 hold, 4 out, 4 hold), both settle the heart rate quickly.
When should a hitter use the routine?
Before every pitch, in practice and in games, and twice after a mistake.
