Slap Hitting Timing Trainer

12 pitches. One button: tap once to Step, again to Slap. Space bar works too.

The two clocks of slap hitting

A slapper runs on two clocks at once. The feet are timed to the pitcher’s motion. The hands are timed to the ball. Most slap problems come from mixing them up: starting the feet late, or slapping as soon as the feet land even when the pitch is a changeup.

  • Clock 1, the feet: pick one cue in the windmill, like the top of the circle or the hands separating, and start the footwork on it every time.
  • Clock 2, the hands: stay back and slap when the ball gets to the contact point. On a changeup, the feet keep going and the hands wait.

How it’s scored

Each tap is graded by how close it is to the target: Perfect within 40 ms, Good within 80, OK within 140. A good slap with your feet on time is a hit. Your Slap Timing Score is your points out of a perfect round, shown as 0–100. The timing bar under the field shows exactly where your taps landed.

Training guide

What it trains

Slap timing: starting the crossover step on the pitcher’s cue, then contacting the ball on time.

Who it’s for

Left-side fastpitch slappers, and players deciding whether to slap or hit away.

How to get better

  • Start your feet on the same cue every pitch.
  • Keep the bat back until the feet have done their job.
  • Practice soft slaps, hard slaps and bunts from the same start.
  • Film from the side to check your step timing.

Questions

When should a slapper start her footwork?

Most slappers start the footwork off a fixed point in the pitcher’s motion, like the hands separating or the arm reaching the top of the circle. The key is using the same cue every pitch so the feet arrive on time. The trainer lets you practice either cue.

How do you time a slap in fastpitch?

Start the feet on your cue, keep the hands back and slap as the ball gets to the contact point. The slap is timed to the ball, not the feet, which is why changeups catch slappers who swing as soon as the feet land.

Can slap hitting timing be practiced at home?

Yes. This trainer drills the rhythm of start-then-slap against a windmill motion. Then take it to the cage with live pitching and film from the side to check that the slap happens as the front foot lands.

Is the Slap Hitting Timing Trainer free?

Yes. It runs in your phone or computer browser with no app and no sign-up, and scores are saved only on your device.
